EquiFriends Riders -
Sisters Lindsay and Jaimi love sport riding
Lindsay and Jaimi Robertson began riding at EquiFriends in 2004. Lindsay lives with Angelman’s syndrome and was unable to walk unassisted at the age of 2 when she came to EquiFriends. When she began riding the therapist used a tool called a “boppy” to provide support for balance to Lindsay. After two sessions of riding, she was walking at the age of 2 & 3/4. Her major issues with motor control have drastically reduced since she began riding. Lindsay also boasts improved balance and strength. In the spring of 2006, Lindsay transitioned out of HIPPO therapy and into the sport-riding program at EquiFriends.
Jaimi also began riding at EquiFriends to meet and develop her physical needs, though she began her riding in the sport-riding program. She came to EquiFriends with slight motor delay at the age of 3. Her balance, motor control and confidence have improved throughout her time riding. Jaimi loves riding and shares that her favorite things about riding is trotting and controlling the horse.
The Robertson family is supported by a single income. Dad works at Boeing while Mom stays home to meet the needs of their children. Without financial assistance Jaimi and Lindsay would not have the opportunity to reap the powerful benefits of riding.
Jaimi and Lindsay are shown here on Chantilly Lace, EquiFriends’ Norwegian Fjord mare, in the Winner’s circle at Emerald Downs racetrack in Auburn WA. EquiFriends received a $350 donation from Emerald Downs and an equal amount from the Boeing Employee Recycling Fund for use as tuition assistance for the Robertson children to continue to ride at EquiFriends. Thank you, Emerald Downs and Boeing Employees!
